Minister R.K. Singh launches EV-Ready dashboard to boost electric vehicle adoption

Union Minister for Power and New & Renewable Energy R. K. Singh launched the EV-Ready Dashboard on October 16 in New Delhi. It is a huge step forward for electric mobility in India. This free digital platform, accessible at (evreadyindia.org), was created by specialists at the OMI Foundation and provides real-time insights into EV adoption, battery demand, charging infrastructure, and market growth trends.

The EV-Ready India Dashboard, developed by the OMI Foundation, compiles comprehensive data on EV sales, charging infrastructure, demand trends, and Total Cost of Ownership. It provides a unique perspective on India’s investment climate for EVs, forecasts market growth, and identifies EV hotspots in the country. The dashboard also tracks emissions reduced, contributing to India’s path to Net Zero emissions.

EV-Ready India dashboard is to play a pivotal role in promoting electric vehicle adoption among various stakeholders, including the industry, policymakers, and end users. By harnessing the power of data and artificial intelligence, it aims to fill the need for macroeconomic data and analysis in India’s rapidly growing electric mobility sector. It foresees a remarkable 45.5% Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) in electric vehicle sales from the year 2022 to 2030. The annual sales of electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) are projected to surge from 6,90,550 units in 2022 to a staggering 1,39,36,691 units in 2030.

In his address to central and state government representatives, industry leaders, and stakeholders, Singh emphasized the inevitability of an electric future. He stated, “The future is electric. Nobody can stop this. Diesel and petrol SUVs will become history. We will have electricity, which suits our journey as one of the largest economies in the world.”

Singh stressed that India’s transition to electric mobility is crucial for achieving energy independence and positioning itself as a major global economy. “We want to move up from the fifth-largest to the third-largest economy, and this requires energy independence, which is the primary reason for electric vehicles.”

Furthermore, the Union Minister underscored the need for decarbonizing the transportation sector, as it accounts for 18% of India’s emissions. Singh revealed the government’s proactive stance in promoting electric vehicles, citing the release of charging guidelines back in April 2018, a time when EVs were not widely discussed.

Addressing obstacles to EV adoption, Minister Singh acknowledged that pricing, largely influenced by storage costs, is a key concern. To address this issue, the government has introduced Production Linked Incentives (PLI) for battery manufacturing, with plans for additional PLIs in the future. These incentives are aimed at reducing the cost of energy storage and making electric vehicles more affordable.

Singh highlighted the importance of electric vehicles in both India’s economic growth and climate action. He pointed out that India’s per capita emissions are significantly lower than those of developed countries and emphasized that the country is on track to meet its commitments related to reducing emissions and increasing renewable energy capacity.

EV-Ready India is a dashboard that is all-in-one and free for all. This is our contribution towards positioning India as a leader in sustainable mobility.
