India sends humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine

An IAF C-17 flight carrying nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief material for the people of Palestine departs for El-Arish airport in Egypt.

India sends Humanitarian aid to the people of Palestine

Ministry of External Affairs’ Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi on October 22 informed that India has sent humanitarian aid to Palestine. He shared on social media platform X, “An IAF C-17 flight carrying nearly 6.5 tonnes of medical aid and 32 tonnes of disaster relief material for the people of Palestine departs for El-Arish airport in Egypt.”

The material includes essential life-saving medicines, surgical items, tents, sleeping bags, tarpaulins, sanitary utilities, water purification tablets among other necessary items. The items will be sent to Palestine through the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza.

Palestinians in the Gaza Strip have found themselves caught in the middle of military conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Earlier on October 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and conveyed his deep condolences over the loss of civilian lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. During their telephonic conversation, Prime Minister Modi had conveyed that India will continue to send humanitarian assistance for the Palestinian people.

PM Modi highlighting traditionally close and historic ties between India and this region, had expressed deep concern at terrorism, violence and deteriorating security situation in the region. He also reiterated India’s long-standing and principled position on the Israel-Palestine issue.

On the other hand, President Mahmoud Abbas shared his assessment of the situation and thanked PM Modi for the support and appreciated India’s position.
